Porous coated tube has dense sintered pores on the surface, which canproduce a number of bubble core, thus can emit bubbles continuously athigh frequency. The higher the frequency of bubble production, the moreheat is taken away, and the higher is the heat transfer efficiency. In addition,after bubbles separate from tube surface, abundant gas columns generat-ed which facilitates a comb-like convection, thinner the laminar flow layerbetween tube and bulk liquid, thus enhances the heat transfer.

 

A certain number of non-condensable gas or medium gas gets trapped inthe pores of tube surface. Bubbles in the pores require lower surface work.thus reducing the requirement of overheating. In addition, the porous layerhas higher specific surface area, which enhances heat transfer, acceleratesevaporation, and increases bubble generation rate. For these two reasons.degree of superheat (or heat flux) required by bubble fomation and devel-opment during the boiling process on the porous surface is lower than thatof smooth surface.
